Post The 10 Men Make A Point
Reading Town 2 Kidlington 2

In the end most of were quite happy to take a point from our match with Reading Town yesterday given the circumstances. Some would argue that at 2 - 1 up we should have gone on and taken all three points against a very poor side, but it wasn't to be in what can only be described as a very scrappy encounter.

We started well and Nathan Geary should have given us the lead within the first 5 minutes as he found himself all alone and unmarked inside the 6 yard box but couldn't fire a shot at goal as the ball seemed to stick between his legs. Another couple of good chances followed but Reading's keeper Nathan Silver was in inspired form to keep his team in it.

Reading were second best right up until their first real attack in the 25th minute when they scored completely against the run of play. Kidlington's bad luck was soon further compounded as the referee ruled a tackle from Jordan Parker was a dangerous two footed lunge and showed him a Red card, to be fair from where we were sitting we couldn't really argue, but this is not something that you would usually associate Parker being guilty of.

Reading not surprisingly were more in the game after this and only a smart save from Dikko prevented us going two down when he deflected a Graham Lewis effort wide of the far post. It remained 1 - 0 until the break.

Gordon and his team moved the players around at half time and replaced Pikey who had been strangely out of sorts with Jack Johnson and played a 3 at the back pattern. This started to pay dividends almost immediately as Reading were caught like a rabbit in the headlights as we stormed forward in search of a goal. Ryan went close, so did Nathan with the home defence looking shaky and when after 55 minutes Ryan was unceremoniously brought down in their box a penalty looked certain. However the referee Steve Hawkes waved play on. Our protests were vociferous and so was the laughing by the away supporters as that was as stone wall as you'll ever see.

This incident seemed to galvanise us further and a fine move in the 62nd minute culminated in Nathan skilfully heading a cross back into the danger area with Ryan bicycle kicking as sweet an equalizing goal as your likely to see.

Kiddy kept the pressure on and only keeper Silver kept them in it firstly denying Tommy Castle and the Ryan again. Kiddy weren't to be stopped and when Silver was finally passed he unceremoniously chopped Ryan to the turf and Kidlington this time did have a penalty. Silver under the laws of the game as last man should then have been shown a Red and forced to follow Parker out of the game, but instead Hawkes never even spoke to him...very strange. Curtain got up to smash the spot kick home for 2 - 1.

Not long after this the team reverted to a four at the back with Padraig Folan coming on for a tiring Jordan Tabor who had had a great second half sitting deep in central midfield. This had the effect of inviting Reading onto us and they took their opportunity to do so. The hosts introduced young Elliott Legg to the game and he was outstanding during his brief appearance.

It was Legg who drew them level in the 77th minute with a strike inside Dikko's near post and the same player almost scored a winning goal in injury time, but shot wide from just outside the box. Kidlington hung on for a point which is creditable, but the game will only be remembered for Jordan's sending off Ryan's fantastic over head kick. It's a point saved not two lost and i'm sure we will be the happier of the two clubs having secured it.

Just a side note:- I read in their programme that they (Reading Town FC) have the right to eject any person(s) using obscene or abusive language. Well their farther & son duo and their side kicks were constantly hurling abuse toward all and sundry, players, Kidlington supporters and officials alike, now I'm not sure why these jokers weren't ejected from the stadium but there were Reading officials in close proximity to them who seemed happy with their antics, strange that.

Perhaps the author of the Kiddy report was referring to Manager Geary and his son (No6 )Nathan!!!! The Kidlington bench was nothing short of a disgrace.....pity we didn't have a stronger ref.

We have never used obscene or abusive language at any games, so it's a strange thing to say from the Kiddy fan confused Being ejected for singing songs like "how high do we want the goal" and "that was really useless" not sure what planet he's on, maybe you have to sit there in silence to be not seen to be abusive!!!!
