From Hellenic Chat!

Reading Town 0-4 Ardley

Very very comfortable for Ardley at Scour Lane.

We are looking strong all over the pitch at the moment.....really hope we can keep this going. Really think we can complete the job but will need some luck and good fortunate between now and May, if we can win it, a great reward for Norm for all his hard work.

Sorry but Reading are rubbish. Most of their lads seem to be able to talk a good game but cant back it up (a bit like a pub team). Its a shame their massive fall from grace after their great effort last season to this mob.....

We were made to feel very welcome today, despite the result, by some nice people at Reading - thanks

Report from the Ardley United Website:-

Saturday 22nd January 2011
Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division
Reading Town 0 Ardley United 4
It was Christmas all over again for Ardley when Reading gifted them two goal’s in the first half without reply. The first came courtesy of a sloppy back pass from Darren Russell, Danny Bone intercepted the ball and slid it passed the advancing keeper after just 4 minutes. If that wasn’t enough Mike Hancock headed into his own net from a Murray Nicolls free kick to give the visitors a two goal lead at half time.
It could have been oh so different, Marcus Richardson was causing the Ardley defence trouble with his size and strength, and in his role as lone striker he had more than one chance to open the scoring but Kurt Fox made some top draw saves denying the equaliser.
A minute before half time Reading had another chance to pull one back when Danny Seaward saw his shot rebound off the Ardley cross bar.
The second half Reading had a lot of possession but struggled to get a shot on target, the Ardley defence had tightened up and they were happy to soak up any attack and hit on the break. This is exactly what happened when Danny Bone played in Lewis Travers who found himself through on goal and his clinical finishing put the game beyond reach of the hosts.
Substitutions were made and it paid dividends when Carl Standen came off the bench and made no mistake from a Danny Bone cross 4 minutes into added on time.
Possibly a flattering score line for the visitors but it keeps them in top spot, with another difficult game ahead at Flackwell Heath on Tuesday.

My Report

Reading Town got off to the worst possible starts early on when Darren Russell's back pass fell short of Chris Rackley and Danny Bone latched onto to the loose pass who then tucked it away to give the visitors the 1-0 lead in the 4th minute. Then the visitors had another chance, this time a free-kick which hit the side netting. The Reading boys did create some chances of their own with Marcus Richardson's one on one effort well blocked by Kurt Fox in the Ardley goal. From the resulting corner Richardson had another opportunity, this time his shot being blasted over. The reds were not shy of shooting with a Danny Seaward freek-kick seeing Kurt Fox making a fine save once again diving low down to his left. The Town kept plugging away with Leon Bird's deflected effort nearly finding the back of the net but the Ardley keeper produced another fine save, to keep his team 1-0 up. Ardley United then got a second goal after Mike Hancock headed into his net. United continued to look dangerous with one effort hitting the post and a lobbed shot just going wide of the goal. Despite going 2-0 down the Town kept on threatening to get a goal with Leon Bird's 38th minute being dragged wide of the target and Danny Seaward having a strike at goal just before half time which hit the crossbar.

Second half and it saw Roddy Slater's men created very few clear cut opportunities and this saw Ardley create some more well worked chances with Chris Rackley having to make a fingertip save to prevent a 3rd goal and on another occasion the ball being cleared off the line by Demetrius Lawrence. United were then rewarded for their efforts when Lewis Traves slotted the ball past Rackley in the 83rd minute to make it 3-0. Ardley found enough time to get a fourth goal in the 4th minute of added on time which saw Danny Bone smash the ball from close range to give the league leader all three points and four goals.
