Thame United 1-0 Reading Town

Post  RTFC Barmy Army on Thu Jan 13, 2011 4:36 am

Reading Town lost yesterday evening at Thame after finding themselves 1-0 down 8th minute after a deflected free-kick found it's way into the back of the net and the goal was the winner with no more goals coming after that.

Both teams created a few chances which saw Chris Rackley in the Reading Town goal make some good saves and the Thame goalkeeper Milan Barisic also producing a couple of fine saves. There wasn't a lot of chances but the opportunities both teams had could have seen Thame increase their lead or for Reading Town to snatch a draw. It wasn't to be with the final result ending 1-0 to the hosts.

The match started off to a quick start with Chris Rackley having to make a finger tip save after a well struck Thame effort came in from a corner kick. Shortly afterwards Thame scored the opening goal in the 8th minute after a deflected free-kick went into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Reading Town looked to get back into the game with David Stevens shot just going past the post and Danny Seaward header just going wide of the target.

The second half saw the hosts go close to getting a second goal but the ball rebounded off the post and it was cleared away. United continued to probe towards goal, with one shot hitting the side netting. Reading Town threw everything at Thame in the last 10 minutes but United stayed strong for the result to stay at 1-0.

Is Thame United's ground as impressive as it looks on their website? Is worth going for a ground hopper experience? Shame about the result. Looks like Thame are going places considering they only got promoted last year.

It was fairly impressive, though rather boring as most modern football grounds tend to be. Not sure how much covering the stand would offer when it's raining and the wind's lashing about a bit, and the stand's the only bit with any cover, maybe take an umbrella if it looks like it'll rain. :p

Food was decent enough and reasonably priced, and the bar was pretty nice as well. Even had a beer brewed specially for the club by Vale Brewery. £4 to get in was pretty good as well (though extra for programme), though the £5 for their upcoming official opening match against O*ford United isn't as good value imo. Wink

There's a couple of artificial five aside pitches outside the stadium which I presume they rent out, so certainly they've got a good foundation for themselves to build upon with the ground.

Was it Wallingford they played their home matches at before? Bit of a trek that!
