Oxford City Nomads 1-1 Reading Town 13th March

Post  RTFC Barmy Army on Sat Mar 13, 2010 2:50 am

The Reading boys travel to Oxfordshire this weekend to play Oxford City Nomads. The Nomads are in some in good form unbeaten in their last 4 league games so should be an entertaining game. I look forward to the game as always and a ground which I have not been to before so will be interesting to look around.

This should be a very tough game as the Nomads became only the second side to crack open the Almonds and send the Oxfordshire outfit nutsssssss this season....can Reading Town go all Brazilian though and show the Nomads that they wont be such easy prey? Reading Town need to win this as Koshi will not be a happy bunny otherwise, and Koshi want RT in top form to face Binfield a week today and Koshi wont be bringing his Bulgarian Mafia chums for this event but he could be bringing his RFC season ticket holding chum to cheer on the mighty RT against Binfield. I just hope Bramley is ready to welcome the K man with a pint of the finest.... he knows it makes senseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Reading Town had the early opportunties in the 1st half and were rewarded for their efforts when in the 8th minute Reading Town were awarded a free-kick in the box after the keeper picked up a back pass. The ball smashed against the wall and then the ball was pinged back into the box where Mark Hughes headed it past the keeper to make it 1-0. The Reading kept chipping away and had several shots which were saved be the Nomads keeper with saw both Herridge and Clarks shots getting blocked/palmed away. Oxford City Nomads made it 1-1 in the 23rd minute, when the ball was headed past Chris Grace. The Town were producing some more efforts, some which just fizzed over, went a few inches wide also others hitting the post and bar. Ross Herridge went close near the end of the half with his shot and it was well palmed away by the keeper.

In the second half the Oxford City Nomads had most of the ball/possesion but it still saw the Town carve out some chances with a shot being cleared off the line. The Nomads also produced some good chances with a free-kick being tipped over by Chris Grace and they also hit the bar as well. Both teams had chances near the end, with free-kicks and crosses, thought either team might grab all three points at the end but the scores stayed the same which saw the points shared.

Next game up for the Town is away to Marlow United and as always I look forward to it!!!

Report from OCN.

Nomads and Town Share The Spoils
13th Mar 10 - Oxford City Nomads 1 vs 1 Reading Town
Report by Chris Byrne

1st XI calls and injuries left Nomads with a depleted squad for this afternoon’s match against the long-time league leaders. After going behind in a first half in which the visitors looked the stronger, a Peter Nagy header levelled the scores and Nomads played with more belief in a very even second period.
Jemaine Ferreira had a shot from distance early on, but Reading were quickly into their stride and went close from a corner as the ball fell to Gianluca Riccio who saw his shot calmly played off the line by James Knight. In the next attack, however, the vistors did edge in front. An underhit back-pass left Milan Barisic with little option but to save with his hands, and although the indirect free-kick was well defended by the wall, the ball broke to the left and was returned to the middle where Mark Hughes headed firmly home after eight minutes.
On the quarter-hour mark there was a lengthy hold up following a clash of heads as Ian Roper and Michael Buck leapt for a ball: both players were left the worse for wear and were substituted.
The interruption broke the momentum of play and several minutes passed before either side made another serious attempt on goal, when Riccio put a shot wide of the mark.
On 27 minutes, and somewhat against the run of play, it was Nomads who got themselves on the scoreline next. Ferreira’s in-field run was stopped unfairly a few yards from the box and Adam Morris lifted the free-kick to the far post where Peter Nagy, despite the attentions of two defenders, leapt high to head back across goal and beat Chris Grace’s fingertips just under the bar.
Stung by the goal Reading responded strongly and Riccio and Scott Rees both went close. Rees also tested Barisic with a free-kick, but the keeper saved well, and he did even better a few minutes later as he beat out Danny Williamson’s powerful shot at the end of a long run.
The Town were looking the more likely to take the next goal as Ian Harvey scooped his shot wide from close-in, and Barisic was again quickly off his line to smother Ross Herridge’s attempt.
Adam Morris’ corner-kick almost wrong-footed Grace, and from the half-clearance Morris delivered a curling cross that Nathan Skelton got his head to but couldn’t quite direct beyond the keeper.
But the half closed with the red shirts having the upper hand as Herridge brought another good save from Barisic, and from the resulting corner an attacker’s foot jabbed the ball through a crowd of players against the post. And with almost the last kick of the half Herridge, put in the clear by Harvey, chose to shoot early and Barisic held on.
Half-Time: Oxford City Nomads 1-1 Reading Town
Nomads started promisingly after the interval and Lewis Colwell’s deep cross had Grace arching backwards to just make a clean catch as Skelton waited expectantly.
And though Williamson’s driving run won a corner for Reading leading to Harvey’s shot being cleared off the line by James Knight on the post, it was the home side that were creating the better chances.
A patient build-up worked the ball to Mark Jones on the right and his centre found Nathan Skelton prepared to have a go from ten yards, but the crisp shot was just wide of Grace’s left-hand post.
James Knight was getting forward well and his perseverence won a free-kick twenty yards out, and Daniel Jones’ precise delivery brought a fine save from Grace high to his right.
Matt Blenford produced a promising run on goal but was stopped by an uncompromising tackle from Riccio; and Peter Nagy saw his shot on the turn deflect to safety off a defender after Morris’ centre had initially eluded the defence.
In the final ten minutes the visitors again pressed forward in gretaer numbers hoping to snatch all three points, and it took a well-timed tackle from Knight to halt Herridge’s unhindered progress on goal as he chased a through-pass; and Mike Hancock looked ruefully after a missed header from a corner as Barisic slipped in a crowded box as the ball came over.
Deep into added time the Reading players must have thought they’d broken the deadlock when Herridge was fouled near the penalty area and Dave Mills curled the free kick towards the top corner, but Milan Barisic flew high to his right and touched the ball behind.
OXFORD CITY NOMADS: Barisic, Knight, Colwell (? 67), Gordon, Nagy, Jones M, Ferreira, Morris, Blenford, Roper (Skelton 16), James D.
READING TOWN: Grace, Williamson (Mills 56), Bratt, Smith, Buck (Hancock 16), Hughes, Rees (Brooks 73), Riccio, Harvey, Herridge, Clark.
