Reading Evening Post by Adam Lee wrote:Reading Town captain Dave Mills believes the club should be looking no lower than all-out domination of the Hellenic Premier Division this season – and has set his sights on the title.

Last season, having made the move from the Combined Counties to the Hellenic League, Town looked destined to finish in the play-off positions.

However, a number of disappointing displays saw them gradually drop out of the promotion picture, before finishing the season in eighth.

But Town have managed to keep the vast majority of their players from last season, with only a couple of players leaving for university.

And although manager Colin Millard hasn’t been overly active in bringing new players into the squad, skipper Mills believes the Allied Counties youth team players that have made the step up into the first team will prove to be just as effective.

“Finishing eighth was a bit disappointing because we were up there in third or fourth and looking to push for the play-offs,” said Mills.

“We’d play well against the top teams, but take our foot off the gas against the lower teams. We’ll be looking to go out and win it this year – we’re going for the top.”

Midfielder Mills, currently in his second spell at the club after re-joining from Henley Town last term, has been impressed with the quality of the young players coming through.

“Pre-season’s been going very well,” said the Town captain. “We’ve had seven or eight friendlies, admittedly only one has been against a higher league team, but we’ve only lost one, which is a good start.

“A lot of the youth team lads have been training and five or six of them have made a real impression in the friendlies.

“It’s looking pretty good, and all in all we’re ready for the start of the season.”

Millard has made the signing of powerful defender Mark Hughes permanent after he impressed towards the end of last season, while Danny Brownlee has returned from university.

Town start their season at home to Hook Norton on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).
